As he and Reid walk to his car at a considerably late hour from the building they worked in, he couldn't help but notice something. Something that almost unsettled him completely.

The look on Reid's face, although not exactly worrisome, was one of longing.

He almost looked as though some content had mixed with that longing, but as Hotch looked at him through the corner of his eye and the two of them huddled underneath the umbrella Reid had remembered to bring with him, he found himself no longer able to hold back the question. It wasn't until they were close to his car that he actually got up the courage to ask.

"What's wrong?" Aaron gently asked, well aware that this Valentine's Day and also their first, wasn't really going as he had hoped.

"Hm?" Spencer replied, looking over at him with some surprise.

"Is everything okay? You just...look like you need to talk about something." Aaron gently asked, their footsteps coming to a halt as he turned to face the younger man.

"Oh! Oh, no, it's okay." Spencer said, a gently smile stretching his lips and the look of longing being confined to a small space in his chestnut eyes.

"Are you sure?" Aaron asked, returning to 'Hotch' mode but still trying to be caring. Spencer nodded, his smile remaining.

"Yeah. It's alright, I was just thinking." Spencer insisted, almost chuckling at Hotch's question before carrying on to the car. Aaron would have pressed the matter had Spencer not been the one carrying the umbrella and it wasn't absolutely pouring.

When he got to the car, he let Spencer in before getting in himself and although he would have normally started the vehicle, his curiousity wouldn't be swayed by Spencer's calm dismissal. Spencer noticed his hesitation to start the car and although he looked like he wanted to say something, Aaron could tell that Spencer knew why.

"Are...you sure you don't want to talk about something?" Aaron asked, worried as his mind conjured up the image of Spencer's look of longing. The younger man smiled and sighed, turning his gaze back to the dashboard before looking back up at him.

   "Why are you so worried?"

"Why are you avoiding the question?" Aaron replied, back to 'Hotch' mode although he really didn't want to be. Spencer's smile didn't faulter and finally, the younger man gave in to Aaron's questions.

"It's...kinda stupid, really." Spencer started, Aaron immediately objecting.

"I don't think so. I'd like to hear." He insisted, sounding more insistant and less like he was ordering Spencer. The younger man looked at him in thought, as though weighing whether or not he should say anything before giving a nod.

"I...I guess...I wish it was...snowing. Instead of raining. Especially today." Spencer told him, confusing Aaron slightly.

"You wish it was snowing instead of raining? Why?" Aaron asked, curious as to why Spencer would want such a thing and especially after he had added the fact that it was Valentine's Day. Spencer looked away with a smile as he shrugged before replying,

"I think it'd be more romantic. It is the middle of February, so it's not like it'd be out of place. But...still. It'd be a little more romantic, don't you think?" Spencer's words were spoken gently and it made Aaron think for a moment. The older man looked through the windsheild, taking in the sight around them of the rain on the windsheild and soaking everything beneath it. It was dark and gloomy outside, but as Aaron imagined the sight of snow around them, he couldn't help but agree.

He smiled a little as he quickly understood, looking back at Spencer to see the younger man looking at him with a smile, the look in his eyes questioning whether or not Aaron did understand.

"It's not stupid." Aaron replied, a hand reaching over and gently allowing him to pull Spencer's head forward so he could plant a gentle kiss on those lips he had kissed so many times before. They enjoyed the tender moment, both of them feeling quite content and happy as the sound of the rain falling around them continued and they remained dry inside the vehicle.

When their lips parted, Aaron allowed Spencer to press his forehead against his, their eyes opening and gazing into the other man's before Aaron asked,

"Can I take you home now and make you a fantastic dinner?" Spencer chuckled, pressing another quick peck onto the older man's lips before giving a nod.

   "Absolutely."
