SONGS OF THE HEART by CMAli
Glitter in the Air by Pink
~Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?
Close your eyes and trust it, just trust it
Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air?
Have you ever looked fear in the face
And said I just don't care?
Spencer watched J.J. and Will kiss each other good-bye as he hoisted Henry onto his shoulders and out of the BAU bullpen. He wondered if they had always felt comfortable enough to touch in such an intimate way in public, and he decided that it had probably emerged from spending so much time together. Unconsciously studying each other’s expressions, inadvertently picking up mannerisms from daily encounters. If Reid was honest with himself, he, too, would like to say he knew someone as well as he knew himself. Maybe even better. The smile on his face reflected that thought filled with satisfaction and hope.
~It's only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg, the sun before the burn
The thunder before lightning, the breath before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?
From his peripheral vision, he noticed Morgan leaning back in his chair, relaxing into a voice carrying through his cell phone. Linda. It had to be the tall, shapely young woman Derek had met at Slider’s some months ago and had been dating exclusively ever since. No one ever made the muscle of the team melt into a warm smile like Linda had accomplished since they became a couple. Reid thought to himself I hope they last. Derek was deserving of as much happiness as the next gentleman, and he had so much to offer a relationship. Spencer’s eyes twinkled when he turned his head a bit to the right to watch Morgan laugh into the phone. The young doctor knew that was the kind of laugh he wanted.
~Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?
Your whole life waiting on the ring to prove you're not alone
Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?
Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?
Dave and Emily walked in, nonchalantly brushing their fingers as they strode past the bullpen toward Rossi’s office. It had been two years since they realized that they were meant to be together. They tried to be discreet, but by the time they officially told the team, we had figured it out. Profilers, you know. They actually made a lovely couple, and they stayed as professional as our jobs would allow. I loved watching their casual moments, how hard it was for them to keep their hands off of each other. A gentle brush of limbs, a soft whisper into a leaning ear, a supportive hand on the small of a back. They had established a life—together. Reid was determined to have that kind of life.
~It's only half past the point of oblivion
The hourglass on the table, the walk before the run
The breath before the kiss and the fear before the flames
Have you ever felt this way?
Garcia’s bounce was a little less extreme as of late. Six months into a pregnancy was taking its toll on the beloved technical analyst despite her protests on the contrary. Spencer loved seeing her glow, her face filled with the warmth of a mother and a protector. Kevin had made Penelope happier than she had ever been and now they were going to share in an experience so sacred, it would be life altering. Not to mention, expensive, smelly and nerve-wracking. But, all in all, it would be worth it when that little hand latched onto theirs for the first time, and they were officially a family. The thought of a tiny being dependant solely on Reid made him actually smile. He knew he would be okay with that.
~There you are, sitting in the garden
Clutching my coffee, calling me sugar
You called me sugar
It was 6PM and a Friday night. The BAU floor was virtually empty save for the regular after-hours slaves-to-the-job, and Reid decided he would head home. He had a good feeling about tonight. Cognac, candles and a bubble bath should ease the tension he had built up in his neck this week, and a little Miles Davis would set the mood for a relaxing evening. A grin grew on Spencer’s face as the thought that he was facing two whole days without a care in the world hit him. This weekend retreat wouldn’t take him beyond his apartment door, but it would prove to be essential in revitalizing his tired body. It was amazing to him that at 35 years of age, he could feel so old at times. Yet, he shouldn’t complain. Despite his many run-ins with trouble, he was healthy and prospering. No, no complaints here. Shutting down his system, he grabbed his satchel and headed to employee parking. A text came through his cell, and upon opening it, he chuckled with satisfaction.
~Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight
Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself
Will it ever get better than tonight? Tonight.
Slipping the key into the lock, Reid stepped into the second floor apartment, toeing off his shoes and hanging his jacket and work bag on the hook just behind the door. He could feel the physical changes in his body as he readjusted to the security of his home, and the comfort of recognizable surroundings. Padding down the hall into the bathroom, he opened the paneled doors to reveal a jet-streaming garden tub and turned the knobs on the faucet. His previous experiences with the large piece of ceramic heaven told him he would have 15 minutes before it would be properly filled. He added the bubble serum and grinned at the thought of the bubbles tickling his nose. It was the simple things in life that he took the most pleasure in.
He dug around in the linen closet to the left of the tub and pulled out six large mocha scented candles, lighting each one and placing them randomly around the room. The CD player was already loaded, so he hit the remote and relished in the soft trumpet melodies streaming from the small, square box marked with the letters b-o-s-e. He quickly relieved himself and began to undress. Friday nights were empty house night, and he thanked God for little blessings.
Closing off the water flow, he carefully eased into the frothy water, moaning at the heat encompassing his body. It was almost orgasmic to be flooded by the warmth.
“Did you forget something?”
Reid’s head rested heavy against the air pillow propped on the side of the tub, and his eyes were closed, processing the comments coming from across the room. If it hadn’t been for the succumbing pleasure of his bath, he would have already been straddling the handsome, dark-haired man he called his partner.
“Good evening, Aaron.”
“Your Cognac, Sir.” Retired FBI Agent Aaron Hotchner slipped into the hot, bubbly water across from his lover and handed him a large snifter of amber liquor. His eyes sparkled like stars, yet hint at mischief. “How was your day?”
“Mm. Now, it’s perfect.” Spencer groaned as Aaron began to massage his feet under the low-pressure streaming of the jets. He was at peace. “God, that feels good.” Reid thought back to his observations of the day and checked off the list he had prepared.
Connection with another being: Check.
Laugh filled with emotion: Check.
Intimate touches: Check.
Someone to call him daddy: Check.
Aaron hummed along with It Never Entered My Mind as Miles poured his heart out of the CD player. For him, life had never been more fulfilling, and he knew it would never be anything less as long as he had his partner in his arms. “I made pesto for dinner. I hope that’s okay.” Though he’d hated to admit it, he was settling into the domestic life quite enjoyably.
“I don’t deserve you, baby.” Reid’s pouty lips turned up at the sides as he sank further into the water, submerging himself in the bubbles that remained. Waves rolled against his chin as his tub-mate began to crawl toward him.
“It’s me that doesn’t deserve you.” He pressed a tender kiss against the doctor’s lips and rested a hand on the smooth, thin chest. “Me without you is just glitter in the air. It exists, and it’s functional, but at the end of the day, it lays dirty and tattered on the floor.” Reid took a deep breath, his eyes connected with Aaron’s. “I need you, Spencer. More than I’ve ever needed anyone.” The younger partner could see the sincerity in his lover’s expression, and he wanted to reassure him that there would never be a question where his heart would belong.
“You have me, Aaron. All of me…
Forever.”
AN: I was listening to the song, and it popped into my head that I should do a series of songfics. Yes, I’m aware of the originality of this concept. Bite me *jk* I hope you enjoy it!
Damn bunnies, anyway…
